RE: 23 JAN 19
GOVERNMENT HOUSE.
HONGKONG. 20th. November, 1918.
sir,
I have the honour to forward the enclosed copy of a report by the Headmaster, Queen's College, regard- -ing certain defalcations on the part of a clerk at the
College.
2.
Mr. Tanner frankly admits that the responsibility rests entirely with himself. There is some excuse for his want of supervision, as he had only recently taken over the duties of Headmaster, and the staff was short-
-handed.
3.
It will be seen that the sum of 8430 lost
is made up of two sums:-
(a). a sum of $100 for which a cheque vas made out
over and above the amount required. (b). a sum of $330 embezzled from the collections
and the cheque.
4.
I have caused Mr. Tanner to be informed
that I cannot overlook the carelessness to which the loss of the sum of $100 is due, and I have called upon him to make good this amount. Of the sum of £330, 3100 is recoverable from the Govemment Officers' Guarantee Fund, and I
recommend
ME RIGHT HONOURABLE
WALTER LONG, M.P.,
